Students Suspended 1 Year for Bullying Bus Monitor

Students who took part in a verbal assault against a 68-year-old bus monitor will each be suspended one year, according to CBS New York.

In a video that was posted to YouTube, students from the Greece School District verbally tortured Karen Klein with vulgar language reducing her to tears.

In addition to their suspension, the students must complete 50 hours of community service.

Klein will not return to her job as a bus monitor. Klein earned $663,000 in donations from more than 30,000 people representing 50 states and 82 countries, CBS New York reports.

Klein received an apology letter from the father of one alleged bullies.

She also received an apology letter last week from parent Robert Helm, who is the father of one of the bullies. The apology letter read:

There’s no excuse and we’re going to get to the bottom of that, but it really broke my heart and I shed a lot of tears thinking about that whole thing. I just want you to know that my family, all of us, are deeply saddened by this whole thing and we’re going to get it right.

Klein called the apology letter a “start.” She says she plans to donate some of the money received to charity.
