Timbaland Says Aaliyah Told Him Tink Was ‘The One’ In His Dream

Timbaland and Tink hit the stage Saturday during the Fader Fort showcase at SXSW. The super-producer had much to say about his new artist after they were done ripping the stage. The two performed a slew of records, but one that stood out contained a sample from Aaliyah’s classic hit song “One In A Million.”

“I don’t touch any of my sister’s records,” he said. “I don’t touch baby girl’s records– you know that’s Aaliyah. I was riding home one day, sleep. She spoke to me in my sleep and said, ‘She’s the one.’”

Tim regarded Tink’s debut LP as one of the best projects he’s produced since Aaliyah’s sophomore album “One In A Million” during an interview with Power 105’s “The Breakfast Club.”

Aaliyah’s breakout project sold 10 million copies worldwide and boasts six Billboard Hot 100 singles, including, “If Your Girl Only Knew,” “One in a Million,” “Got to Give It Up,” “4 Page Letter,” “Hot Like Fire” and “The One I Gave My Heart To.”

Tim previewed Tink’s hot single “Movin Bass” featuring Jay Z and Rick Ross to make believers out of listeners on The Breakfast Club.

The super-producer praised Tink’s artistry on the Breakfast Club, saying “God” led him to the 19-year-old songstress.

Tim said he discovered Tink’s music through Da Internz during a visit to L.A.

“God worked everything out. It was so miraculously. It was like at the time He knew what I needed.”

Tim said he almost retired from the music biz prior to meeting Tink.

“She was music and she saved my life,” he said.

“In today’s music she will be the only one who resonates sales,” he added.
