Top Shotta Says Chicago Hip Hop Is Practically Mainstream; Says Sound Is Raw and Authentic

Top Shotta sat down with Hip Hops Revival and ClearVisual to offer his thoughts on Chiraq’s growing Hip Hop scene. Despite the market being primarily underground, Shotta feels it is essentially mainstream.

“I like it. More people getting to notice everything,” the “Mr. Shoot It Out On Halsted” rapper said. “Everybody ask ‘Is Chicago be going mainstream?’ We already really mainstream if you look at it. Like Durk and Chief Keef and all of them. Millions of people already know them. Our music already out there, so for it to keep going, it’s good. More artists coming out.”

Shotta says there is a lot that separates Chi Town Hip Hop from rival markets.

“It’s more raw. It’s more authentic,” he said. “Everybody going through something everywhere. But right now everything in Chicago haywire. What these shorties talking about real. When you hear they messages, it’s different. When you listen to my music, you know like dude out there on to something. He into something in these streets.
