Gangster Disciple Founder Larry Hoover’s Grandson, Geremy Hoover, Murdered During Armed Robbery

Geremy Hoover, the grandson of Gangster Disciples founder Larry Hoover, succumbed Wednesday to injuries sustained during a weekend robbery in the South Shore neighborhood in South Side Chicago.

Hoover, 24, was walking with a friend Sunday afternoon when the suspect approached him and asked if he could use his cell phone, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The assailant then demanded Hoover to give him his valuables. Hoover attempted to escape, but was shot in the head, according to the Chicago Sun Times. The attacker proceeded to empty Hoover’s pockets before fleeing.

Hoover leaves behind three children.

Hoover’s close friends, including rapper Swagg Dinero, took to social media to honor him:

Hoover’s grandfather Larry Hoover, 62, is said to have formed the notorious Gangster Disciples street gang in Chicago in the late 1960s.

The GDs, which formed on the South Side of Chicago, can now be found active nationwide in many major metropolitan cities.

Hoover engaged petty crime as an adolescent, but soon dabbled in major illegal activities, as he got older during the growth of his criminal empire.

Hoover’s ways soon caught up to him after he was sentenced to 150 to 200 years in prison for the murder of drug dealer Williams Young, according to biography.com.

While in prison, Hoover changed the name of his street gang to “Growth and Development.”

Despite professing change for the urban community, Hoover was linked to running an elaborate criminal empire behind bars. He was later indicted and sentenced to serve six life sentences at the United States Penitentiary Administrative Maximum Facility.
