A young girl, barely a teenager, was able to make a quick decision during perhaps one of the scariest ordeals in her life.

Miranda Bowman, 12, successfully managed to steer her way to safety after her grandfather died behind the wheel, according to Time Magazine. Paul Parker, 63, reportedly suffered heart failure while driving, saying to his granddaughter to “just keep talking to him” and that “he was scared,” Bowman recollects.

Bowman said she knew her grandfather was dead after he closed his eyes and put his head on the glass. Bowman struggled to swerve the vehicle off the road as it reached 80 mph.

She was able to safely stop the car by driving off the road aiming for bushes and trees.

“I thought I was going to die too,” she said. “I kicked the door open and was just crying and screaming. People must have thought I was a lunatic.”
