Jill Scott Says Meek Mill Is Lost In The Fame

Neo-Soul artist Jill Scott had profound words for her Philly counterpart Meek Mill.

The “Golden” singer sat down during an interview with Power 105’s “The Breakfast Club” to offer her thoughts on Meek’s rise to fame.

Scott said she is a fan of the Meek, but hinted that the MMG artist may have lost sight of his roots.

“…I don’t know what’s going on,” she told listeners. “He’s been dope for a long time. I wish him luck and success and focus. It’s hard to transition from being the underdog to not being noticed to being noticed everywhere.”

Scott said she liked Meek prior to his entry into the industry.

“I liked hearing him on the street… walking down the street and bumping into this kid…listening to him spit then was amazing to me,” she said.

Scott further elaborated that it is easy for an artist to get caught up in the lifestyle of being famous.

“It’s all a part of it, the transition of not being famous to being famous,” she said. “You have to remember what’s important to you. It’s easy to get lost, and that’s for everybody, not just Meek. You can get lost in it and start thinking other things are more important than the craft. And the craft is everything.”

Scott wants Meek to not focus on portraying a false image, but staying true to himself.

“Enjoy the fame, enjoy the wealth. Have fun, but at the same time. What I see with a lot of young people is trying to make sure everybody thinks you have more than you actually have,” she continued. “What’s the point if you actually don’t have it. If you don’t have it, then you don’t have it. Have what you have and enjoy that. Don’t be afraid of not being wealthiest person in the room. Be the smartest person in the room. Be the slickest person in the room, be the most creative person in the room. Be the most entertaining person in the room. Just be in the room.”
