L’A Capone’s Killer, Meiko Buchanan, Serving 45 Years In Same Prison As RondoNumbaNine and Cdai

Meiko Buchanan, 25, was convicted of murdering L’A Capone in September. Capone, born Leonard Anderson, was shot and killed at age 17 while leaving a studio on Sept. 26, 2013.

Buchanan was transported from Cook County to Menard Correctional Center in early November.

Menard Correctional Center is the same prison where L’A Capone’s close friends RondoNumbaNine and Cdai are incarcerated.

On Tuesday, July 5, RondoNumbaNine was sentenced to 39 years in prison for the 2014 murder of cab driver Javan Boyd. On Thursday, July 7, he was transferred to Menard Correctional Center in Menard, IL to serve his time.

Rondo’s projected release date is Feb. 24, 2056. He is eligible for parole on Feb. 24, 2053.

Cdai was sentenced to 38 years in prison on Monday, May 9. He was transferred to Menard Correctional Center on May 17.

Cdai’s projected release date is March 5, 2055. He is eligible for parole on March 5, 2052.

Rondo, 19, and Cdai, 21, were found guilty of the Feb. 22, 2014 slaying in March.

Momma Capone took to IG to proudly announce Buchanan’s guilty verdict.

The caption on her post read, “I know u in heaven smiling down right now got some justice for you today 1 down 2 more to go #justiceforlacapone.”

Her second IG post related to Capone’s trial read, “Guilty.”

It’s possibly only a matter of time before Capone’s second killer, Michael Mays, learns his fate.

Capone’s mother Ms. Morris, aka Momma Capone, took to IG in late October to reveal Mays was found guilty in her son’s murder.

The caption on her post read, “[Two] down, [one] more to go. It’s so sad how young ppl do things that they will later regret. I’m glad it’s almost over but sad that so many ppl are hurt behind this #Justice4LA.”

A total of three people were charged in Capone’s slaying, including, Meiko Buchanan, Michael Mays and Sakhee Hardy-Johnson.

Buchanan confessed to the crime while in custody awaiting trial on unrelated charges of aggravated battery of a peace officer and aggravated use of a weapon, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Mays and Hardy-Johnson also confessed to the crime, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Buchanan’s role in the murder was driver of the “trail car,” a vehicle that follows the lead car containing the gunman, Assistant State’s Attorney Alex Molesky told the Tribune.

Buchanan allegedly said he pulled into the alley and watched the gunman sneak up on L’A and shoot him twice.

The alleged rival gang members had an ongoing dispute with Capone, Molesky said in court, according to the Tribune.

In July, Momma Capone took to IG to announce justice for her son was coming soon.

Menard Correctional Center, located in Chester, IL, opened in March 1878, and is the second oldest prison in Illinois. It has a population of about 3,695 inmates, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections. It is located 347 miles from Chicago, a five and a half-hour drive.

More than half of Menard’s inmates have been convicted of murder, according to a report by John Howard Association of Illinois.

One of Menard’s inmates includes Drew Peterson, a retired police officer whose high-profile killing of his third wife landed him a 38-year sentence in 2013.

In 2014, Menard gained national attention after prisoners staged a hunger strike in protest of their confinement conditions. Prison guards allegedly beat inmate Armando Velasquez due to the strike.
