Rhymefest: ‘75% of all Murders in Chicago Go Unsolved’

There is a reason why many Chicago natives take vengeance in their own hands, according to emcee Rhymefest.

“The body count is not the misconception. The body count is there,” Rhymesmith said in the “Murder to Excellence: Life & Hip Hop in Chicago” documentary. “I think one thing that is not being spoken about is 75% of all murders in Chicago go unsolved. Nobody talks about that. 70 to 75% of all murders are unsolved.”

The Windy City surpassed 500 homicides in 2012. Many of those murders remain unsolved.

Rhymefest said many Chicagoans have little faith in the Chicago Police Department.

“So what that means is if you shoot Rhymesmith son; my son 14, and I don’t feel like the police are gonna find who did it or give me no justice, but I know who did it, Ima get who did it,” he said. “How can we stop violence in Chicago if the people really don’t feel protected by the force that is designed to find the killers and put the killers in jail?”

Civil Rights Leader Jesse Jackson took to Twitter to call for the President to tackle the “complex” issue gripping the city of Chicago.

“I’m so glad the president spoke out about Newtown. But Chicago is much more complex. 175 under 18 killed this year as of last night in Chi,” he wrote.

“Ignorance, hopelessness and guns are all factors in this war in Chicago. But we don’t make it sell guns in Chicago,” he wrote.

What will it take to curb the violence in the Chicago? Sound off below.
