STL EBT’s Gakirah Barnes, aka K.I., Gunned Down, Talked Death Days Before Murder

STL EBT member K.I, born Gakirah Barnes, was murdered Friday, April 11 after she was shot multiple times around 3:30 p.m. in the 6400 block of South Eberhart Avenue, Fox 32 reports. She was shot as many as nine times, suffering gunshot wounds to the chest, jaw and neck, according to NBC Chicago.

K.I., 17, was too old to be transported to the University of Chicago Hosptial, the closest medical facility at 1.5 miles away. One has to be under 15 to be admitted into the hospital’s Children’s Trauma Center. The hospital doesn’t have an adult trauma center.

K.I. was instead taken 13 miles away to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. She was pronounced dead at 5:43 p.m., according to

K.I. experienced tragedy nearly two years ago with the loss of her brother Tyquan Tyler.

Tyquan, 13, was an innocent bystander in an early Sunday, June 24, 2012 shooting that occurred at a party at 1:20 a.m. He was hit in the chest and died in his mother’s arms less than two hours later.

K.I. was left traumatized by Tyquan’s death and regularly reminisced about her slain brother through social media.

“Rip lil bro tyquan,” she wrote.

K.I. eerily discussed death days before her tragic ending. A series of tweets posted suggests she knew death was near.

“Money coming money going it ain’t like u could take it with u

“In da end we Die

“I Dne seen 2 many of my n*ggaz n a casket

“U Nobody until Somebody kill u dats jst real Shyt

“I Got n*ggaz tryna Off Me Put Me n a Coffin

“Ima Die A Real n*gga we all got dat day coming,” she wrote.
