Two Small Children, 3 and 5, Shot In South Side Chicago

A grandmother and her two small grandchildren are recovering from injuries sustained in a shooting in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood.

Gunmen inside a gray SUV opened fire Tuesday night, striking Eileen Atwood, 51, and 5-year-old Kamari and 3-year-old Kayden on the 2500 block of East 78th Street, according to NBC Chicago.

Eileen was shot in her thigh. Kamari suffered a gunshot wound to his stomach while cousin Kayden was shot in his right shoulder.

According to CBS Chicago, Kamari alerted his grandmother after he was wounded, exclaiming, “I need a Band-aid! I need a Band-Aid! I’m scared! I’m scared!”

The children were reportedly rushed to La Rabida Children’s Hospital and later transferred to Comer Hospital. They are currently in stable condition.

The grandmother was listed in fair condition at Northwestern Hospital.

Authorities are still searching for the suspects involved in a shooting.
