University of South Alabama Student Robbed at Gunpoint in Drug Deal in Dorm Room

A Montgomery, AL man has been charged with first-degree robbery and third-degree criminal trespassing in a robbery attempt in a dorm room at the University of South Alabama, The Mobile-Press Register reports.

A student invited Justin Sears, 19, and another unidentified man to his dorm room in the Delta 4 residence hall to purchase marijuana from them, WSFA 12 News reports. The two suspects then robbed the student at gunpoint of $1,000 and a cell phone.

A gunshot was reportedly fired outside the room. No one was injured during the incident.

One of the suspects left the campus. Sears fled to another dorm and was apprehended by police. The campus was placed into lockdown following the crime.

Prior to the incident, suspect Justin Sears, 19, was banned from the campus due to his involvement in “illegal narcotics activities,” university police chief Zeke Aull told The Mobile Press- Register.

Sears is not a student on the campus, but reportedly has friends who attend the university.
