Ken Bennett, Arizona Secretary of State

The state of Arizona is pondering whether keep President Barack Obama off the November Presidential ballot.

Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett spoke with KFYI host Mike Broomhead regarding the Obama birther controversy.

“I’m not playing to the birther. I’m not a birther,” he said on the radio show. “I believe the president was born I Hawaii…at least I hope he was.”

Bennett said during the interview he has been trying to verify Obama’s certificate with the state of Hawaii for the past eight weeks.

Bennett said it was his “responsibility as secretary of State” to make sure “the ballots in Arizona are correct and that those people whose names are on ballot have met the qualifications for the office they are seeking.”

He said it was “possible” he keep Obama off the ballot if there were any issues with his certificate.
