Authorities are investigating a shooting at Virginia State University that left a student injured and another dead.
The shooting occurred Tuesday, April 17 around 4 p.m. on the edge of VSU’s campus, CBS 6 reports.
The student reportedly was shot in the ankle as ran from the scene of the crime. He was taken to the hospital where he was later released.
The second victim was shot in his abdomen and died of his wounds at Southside Regional Medical Center, CBS 6 reports.
VSU did not send out an alert to their students in response to the shoot-out, a university spokesman told CBS 6.
VSU students Ryan Robinson and “Iesha” were somewhat indifferent to the crime that injured a student and killed another possible student.
“I feel like it is what it is,” Iesha told CBS 6. “I mean it happens all over the world. It happens every day, so it really is nothing new.”
Robinson called the tragic incident “crazy,” but also state he’s not surprised because it “happens all over the world.”
“It’s crazy that it happened, but I can’t say that I’m surprised . . . there’s just so many shootings,” he said. “Especially at colleges nowadays.”
Police are currently investigating the incident.
